What is a 1-on-1 / small group safety course?
A Private Firearms Safety Course (11029NAT) is scheduled specifically for a single person OR small group. They are designed to provide flexibility about when the course can be undertaken (weekdays) and to be completed in a shorter time. See the full benefits listed below.
The cost will be higher than public safety course fees, but it varies in relation to the number of participants and the category of course being undertaken. Please contact us on 0422 285 501 to discuss your needs.

Category A & B
This course allows you to apply for the most common type of Firearms license. Category A&B allows the acquisition of:
- Bolt Action Rifles
- Lever Action Rifles
- Break/Lever Action Shotguns
- Air rifles
For the following uses:
- Sports Shooting
- Primary Production (Farmers)
- Recreational Shooting (Hunting or Pest eradication)
Category A, B & H
This course combines Category A & B with Category H and allows you to apply for a Firearms license and a Concealable (Handgun) License. It permits the acquisition of:
- Bolt Action Rifles
- Lever Action Rifles
- Break/Lever Action Shotguns
- Air rifles
- Semi-Automatic Handguns
- Revolvers
For the following uses:
- Sports Shooting
- Primary Production (Farmers)
- Recreational Shooting (Hunting or Pest eradication) (Prohibited for Handguns)
Category H
This course allows you to apply for a concealable (handgun/pistol) license. It can be combined with a category A&B course or done separately. It permits the acquisition of:
- semi-automatic handguns
- air pistols
- revolvers
For the following uses:
- Sports Shooting
- Primary Production (Farmers)
- Occupational Requirements (Feral Pest)
Category C & D
This course allows you to apply for a Firearms License. It permits the acquisition of:
- Pump Action Shotguns
- Semi-Automatic Shotguns
- Semi-Automatic Rifles
For the following uses:
- Primary Production (Farmers)
- Sport Shooting (Cat C)
- Collectors
- Occupational Requirements (Feral pest)
Course Outline (11029NAT Course in Firearms Safety)
The course encompasses a combination of theory and practical elements that includes firearms legislation, licensing requirements, firearm terminology and function, safe storage and transportation requirements, safety handling and more.
Students are required to complete a theory and practical examination designed by the Queensland Police Service, and be deemed competent in all aspects to be issued their 11029NAT certificate in Firearms and Weapons Safety.
Course Requirements
- USI number: It is a government requirement that students have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) before undertaking this course. It is a simple process to obtain a USI
- Enclosed shoes
- Close-fitting shirt to guard against expelled casings
Criteria for Applying for a Queensland Firearms License
- Age >18 years (unless applying for a minor’s license)
- Queensland resident
- Have access to required secure storage
- Possess a genuine reason to hold a license
- Demonstrate training in the safe use of firearms (This Course!)
- Are fit and proper and have not been convicted (within 5 years) of an offence including misuse of drugs or weapons; the use or threatened use of violence, or been the subject of a domestic violence protection order
Please Note
Anyone that meets the above requirements may undertake any of the safety courses. However, to be issued a license you need to satisfy the specified criteria as per the Queensland Police Service requirements.
