How to apply for a Firearms Licence
Where to apply
To obtain a firearms licence in Queensland, you need to apply through the Queensland Police Service. This application can be made online via the Queensland Police website. Please see the instructions below.
Things you need before applying
- Safety Course Certificate (NAT11029NAT Course in Firearms and Weapons Safety)
- Safe storage (gun safe)
- A genuine reason
- shooting club membership (This is the most commonly used reason. We recommend Shooters Union Australia because it is affordable and they do a lot for the shooting community. Another good option is Sporting Shooters Association of Australia.)
- OR a letter from a rural property owner.
PLEASE NOTE: Your Firearms licence (Category A&B) and your Concealable licence (Category H – Handgun) are Individual licences and are applied for independently of each other.
